The Window and the Landscape

This piece by [DK] measures 132 inches wide and is made of tiled photocopies, fence stick, orange lighter and duct tape. Like much of his work, the piece draws from experiences as a mixed-race child growing up in a housing project in Tacoma.
“Many ethnicities were represented on each street block of that neighborhood,” he says, “and so were all the polarizing opinions and personalities, including comments about what or who people thought I was.” He continues, “Returning to these memories for me means attempting to reveal the gold that is often hidden in the aspects of life we find quite ordinary.”
“The Window and the Landscape” is on view March 9 through April 2 at TECTONIC, a group exhibit highlighting artists who will be shown or represented in 2016 by Georgetown’s newest gallery, Bridge Productions, founded by curator Sharon Arnold and opening this month.
